Umar Bin Khattab | Before and After Adhering to Islam

FolderIslamku.blogspot.com Umar bin Khatab is known to be physically strong, even he became the champion of wrestling in Mecca. Umar grew up to be a respected and feared young man at that time. He has a strong character to the nickname as "The Lion of the Desert". He was one of the most violent young men in defending the traditional Arabic religion which at that time still worshiped idols and guarded their customs.

Before embracing Islam, Umar Bin Khattab was a highly respected person and respected by the people of Mecca. He also carried out a tradition carried out by the Meccan ignorance at that time, which was to bury his daughter alive as part of the implementation of the still barbaric Mecca customs. After embracing Islam under the Prophet Muhammad, Umar reportedly regretted his actions and realized his folly at that time as narrated in one hadith. Umar is also known as a person who likes to drink wine and is a heavy drinker. After becoming a Muslim, he no longer touched alcoholic beverages.

Umar Bin Khattab was born in the city of Mecca from the Bani Adi tribe, which was one of the clans of the Quraysh tribe, the largest tribe in Mecca at that time. His father Khattab bin Nufail Al Shimh Al Quraishi and his mother Hantamah binti Hasyim were from the clan of Bani Makhzum. He was given the title by the Prophet Muhammad as Al-Faruq which means people who can separate between truth and falsehood. The Umar family is classified as a middle class family who can read and write and at that time was something rare

Formerly Umar was a person who strongly opposed the teachings of Islam under the Prophet Muhammad, Muslims at that time recognized that Umar was their most calculated opponent, this was because Umar had a very good reputation as a war strategist and a soldier who was very tough on every war that he went through. Umar was also noted as the most numerous person and most often used his power to torture followers of the Prophet Muhammad.

At the height of his hatred of the Prophet Muhammad. One time Umar bin Khattab once decided to try to kill the Prophet Muhammad, one day with his sword drawn, Umar headed for Darul Arkom, where the king of the Prophet gathered with his companions. Seeing his fierce face, his eyes were glazed, others thought and understood that this would certainly be murder.

On the way to Darul Arkom, Umar met with Nuaim bin Abdullah.
Nuaim asked "Yes Umar, where are you going?"

"Want to kill it, the apostate," Umar answered firmly.

"Which apostate?" said Nuaim.

"Which one else? That. That divides us. Who insults our idols. Who defames our ancestors and descendants. Who else if not Muhammad," said Umar.

"Umar, is it not wrong? Are you not ashamed? You want to go kill Muhammad, while your own brother Fatimah, he is already one of Muhammad's followers," explained Nuaim.

Hearing Nuaim's words, Umar grew furious. Step Umar turned from Darul Arkom, he headed for his sister's house, Fatimah. At home, Fatimah was gathering with her husband Said bin Zaid and a friend named Habab Ibnul Arots reading the Koran in a suhuf sheet.

Hearing the arrival of the man who was nicknamed 'The Lion of the Desert' at that time, Habab immediately ran away and hid behind the door. Suhuf Alquran was hidden by Fatimah behind her clothes. then Fatima opened the door for Umar. After entering the house, without further ado Umar immediately asked "Fatimah, is it true that you have converted to Islam and become followers of Muhammad?" Umar asked furiously.

"Yes!" said Fatimah. After hearing Fatimah's words, the slap landed on Fatimah's face until blood came out from her nose.

Seeing his wife hurt, At that time, Said as a husband tried to defend his wife. However, Umar immediately grabbed Said's neck and slammed it down. Dada Said stepped on Umar. Fatimah snapped at Umar, "Umar! Did you hit the person who testified that there is no god but Allah and Muhammad Rasulullah? Do you persecute someone who is called to follow the truth? What kind of person are you Umar ?!".

Suddenly Umar saw the suhuf which Fatimah had hidden. "What are you hiding behind your clothes Fatimah?" said Umar.

"Suhuf Al-Quran," said Fatimah.

"Here, I want to see?" Umar said.

"You can't. You're dirty, dirty people can't hold the Qur'an. If you want to hold it, clean yourself first," Fatimah said. He received his sister's request.

After cleaning up, Umar read the suhuf the first verse of the Thoha letter.

"Bismillahi rahmani rahim. Thaha. I do not send down this Qur'an to make it difficult for humans. Rather it is a reminder for those who fear Allah." (Surah Thoha verses 1-2)

Then continue in verses 14-16 in the same letter Surah Thoha.

"Verily I am Allah, there is no God (the right) besides Me, so worship Me and establish a prayer to remember Me. Surely the end will come, We will not let you know all the people who have whatever they have done in the life of this world. "

After reading the verse, Umar's soul trembled. In his heart, the sentence must not be from humans.

"Hi, Fatimah tell me where is Muhammad?" Umar asked.

"I will not tell if you will only hurt the Messenger of Allah!" said Fatimah.

"I will not harm him at all, Fatimah. Just tell me where he is ?!" Umar said. Finally Fatimah told her location.

Umar hurried to Darul Arkom. The arrival of Umar was always considered a disaster for the companions of the Prophet. But the king of the Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him, "Calm down, hopefully there is a lesson."

Saying Hamzah bin Abdul Mutalib when he opened the door said, "If we have good intentions, we accept that the intention is not good, I am at the front,". After the door was opened, Umar immediately entered and embraced the Prophet.

Umar bersyahadat, "Asyhadu an-laa ilaaha illallaah Wa asyhadu anna Muhammadan Rasuulullaah."

Friends also believe. Allah is the Greatest. Allah is the Greatest. Allah is the Greatest.

In 622 AD, Umar joined the Prophet Muhammad and other Muslims emigrated to Medina. He also followed the battle of Badr, Uhud, Khaybar and the attack on Syria. He was respected by Muslims because of his reputation before and after becoming a famous Muslim. He is also the foremost person who always defends the Prophet Muhammad and the teachings of Islam on every occasion, even he unhesitatingly opposes his old friends who once tortured his followers of the Prophet Muhammad.

In Medina, Umar and Hamzah were the ones most feared by the Quraysh. Both were always ready to fight if the Prophet Muhammad was insulted. He openly challenged anyone to follow him if he wanted "his mother to mourn, his wife to be a widow, and her child to cry for loss." If they insulted the Apostle.

After the Prophet Muhammad died, Abu Bakr became the caliph. When Abu Bakr became a caliph, Umar bin Khatab became one of the advisers to his head. After Abu Bakr died in 634, Umar bin Khatab was appointed to replace Abu Bakr as the second caliph in Islamic history.

At the end of the day, the Caliph Abu Bakr always asked everyone. "What do you think about Umar?" And all those asked by the Caliph Abu Bakr called Umar a hard man, but he was strong and very good. Then after considering it, Abu Bakr called Usman bin Affan and asked Usman bin Affan to write a will that his successor would later be Umar.

It seems that Abu Bakr was a little worried if later Muslims would argue if he was gone and did not write a will.

In 13 Hijri or 634 AD, Abu Bakr died and Umar became caliph. If people refer to Abu Bakr as "Khalifatur-Rasul", they now call Umar Bin Khattab "Amirul Mukminin" (Leader of believers).

During the reign of Umar bin Khatab, Islamic power grew very rapidly. Islam took over Mesopotamia and Persia from the hands of the Sassanid dynasty, and took over Egypt, Palestine, Syria, North Africa and Armenia from the Roman Emperor (Byzantium). At that time there were two superpower countries namely Persia and Rome, but both had been conquered by the Caliphate of Islam under the leadership of Umar bin Khatab.

Umar was not only a simple person, but also a person who dared to do jihad. Namely doing things that the Apostle did not do. For the government, he formed departments. He no longer shared the spoils of war for his troops, but set a salary for them. Umar began the Hijri calendar, and continued to collect verses from the Quran which Abu Bakr initiated. He also ordered tarawih prayers in congregation.

Umar Bin Khattab died in the year 23 Hijriah or 644 AD. because he was killed by Abu Lukluk (Fairuz) who was a fanatical slave when Umar would lead the morning prayer. It is known that Fairuz was a Persian who converted to Islam after the Persians were conquered by Umar. This murder is said to have been in the background of Fairuz's revenge against Umar bin Khatab, Fairuz was hurt by the defeat of Persia, which at that time was a superpower. And this is the first murder of a Muslim to another Muslim. After his death, the position of Caliph was held by Ustman bin Affan.

Such is the glimpse of the story of Umar bin Khattab in the period before and after embracing Islam. Hopefully from that story we usually take lessons and lessons to be used as life guidelines. Hopefully useful and worthy of worship in the sight of Allah SWT. FolderIslamku.blogspot.com
